North Carolina Railroad Co. and Norfolk Southern Railway on Monday launched an effort to refurbish the West Webb Avenue underpass in Burlington, N.C.The railroads have contracted cleaning and refurbishing work for the bridge, which was built in 1938. The overpass features two reinforced concrete abutments supporting a ballast deck steel truss span measuring about 170 feet.Projected to take 12 weeks to complete, the work involves cleaning and painting all exposed steel surfaces and both abutments, and coating the abutments with anti-graffiti paint.
