MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) next week will begin replacing wood ties on the Montauk Branch between stations in Patchogue and Speonk, New York.Crews will perform the work Feb. 26 through May 28. The upgrades are part of LIRR's 2018 annual track program, which includes improvements to safety and on-time performance, railroad officials said in a press release.While the ties are replaced, the Montauk Branch will be out of service each weekday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to allow the work to take place. LIRR will run buses during the closure.Coinciding with the tie replacements, the railroad will install new concrete railroad crossings at 13 intersections along the route. That work will be completed during March, April and May. Crossings to be renewed include intersections in East Hampton, Patchogue, Bellport and Center Moriches, New York.
