The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) today will begin a project to revitalize MAX Blue Line light-rail track in downtown Hillsboro.

The project includes replacing sections of rail, upgrading the track bed, installing new switch machines and repairing roadway near the rails at three grade crossings.

The work is aimed at improving reliability and providing a smoother rider for MAX riders, TriMet officials said in a press release. The project also is expected to benefit pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

The project is expected to take seven weeks to complete.
