The MTA Metro-North Railroad today closed the 120-year-old Third Avenue Bridge in Mount Vernon, New York, in preparation for demolition next week.
The $10.4 million bridge replacement project will take 18 months to complete, MTA officials said in a press release.
John Civetta & Sons Inc. will complete removal of the bridge by July. New girders, or support beams, will be erected and installed for the new bridge in December.
The Third Avenue Bridge carries traffic and pedestrians over Metro-North’s New Haven Line between 1st Street and Fiske Place.
The bridge is one of six structures Metro-North is replacing across the New Haven Line.
