Rail News: Maintenance Of Way

Railway Tie Association to hold tie grading seminar in mid-July

The Railway Tie Association (RTA) will hold its 2005 Tie Grading Seminar July 17-19 at Burke-Parsons-Bowlby Corp.'s DuBois, Pa., plant.

Instructors will conduct field exercises on various topics, including untreated wood deterioration, tie storage and handling, identifying wood species, determining defects and treating technology.

The event also will feature a half-day, video-based course on engineering principles and tie specifications, and a tour of Burke-Parsons-Bowlby’s plant, which produces wood ties.
