Earlier this month, Union Pacific Railroad began a $6.1 million track improvement project between Blairstown and Nevada, Iowa.

To be completed in late June, the project calls for replacing 53,400 feet of curved rail, removing and installing 31,200 ties, spreading 9,300 tons of ballast and replacing surfaces at 27 grade crossings.

The project is part of UP’s 2006 $1.5 billion capital spending program.
