The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) Educational Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2013 scholarship program.
The foundation awards scholarships to engineering students specializing in the railway industry, and supports other educational and training endeavors to help educate students pursuing a career in the rail industry. Scholarship applicants must demonstrate an interest in railway engineering, maintain a grade point average of 2.0 and be available for an interview by the AREMA scholarship committee.
Students can apply for the scholarship online at www.aremafoundation.org. The application deadline is March 8.
AREMA also sponsors a design competition for students studying architecture or building sciences. The competition is designed to introduce students to professional opportunities in the rail and transit industry. Sponsored by AREMA Committee 6 — Buildings and Support Facilities — students will be asked to address design issues associated with the conceptual development of a commuter-rail maintenance workshop.
The AREMA Educational Foundation will award a $2,000 scholarship to the first-place winner and a $1,000 scholarship to the second-place winner.
