Yesterday, BNSF Railway Co. began one of its largest summer maintenance-of-way (MOW) projects. Involving two rail and two tie gangs, the $13.5 million project comprises improvements to 155 track miles in the Milk River Subdivision between Havre and Glasgow, Mont.

Crews will install 13 miles of rail and 82,051 ties on the route, which typically handles 35 trains daily. Gangs will work during a seven-hour window (6 a.m. to 1 p.m.) Monday through Friday to complete the project.

Since November, representatives from BNSF’s MOW, mechanical, network operations, telecommunications and administrative departments have collaborated to plan and coordinate the project.
