Metra announced yesterday that BNSF Railway Co. crews tomorrow will begin a major tie replacement project on the BNSF Line between Downers Grove and Aurora, Illinois.

BNSF plans to replace 17,000 ties over 15 miles of track.

To minimize the impact on commuter-rail riders, BNSF will condense the three-week project into a single weekend, Metra officials said in a press release.

Crews will work three 12-hour days and deploy extra equipment to complete the project in three days, they said.

Still, the work will require some train schedule changes and cancellations.
