Buffalo & Pittsburgh restores service after repairing fire-damaged bridge

Last week, the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad Inc. (B&P) announced it restored service to three Butler County, Pa., shippers after repairing a wooden bridge that was damaged by a fire last month.

The 770-mile regional spent six weeks installing new track on culverts and placing earthen fill to fix the bridge, which is located on the railroad’s East Butler-to-Bruin, Pa., line. Local, state and federal agencies helped B&P expedite the permitting process to get work under way as soon as possible.

“We could not have restored the line in such a short period of time without the help of several … agencies,” said B&P President and General Manager David Collins in a prepared statement.

Owned by Genesee & Wyoming Inc., B&P operates a network in western Pennsylvania and New York.
