CN implements ENSCO's track-asset management system

Yesterday, ENSCO Inc. announced it has implemented a TrackIT asset-management system for Canadian National Railway Co., the supplier's first international customer for the Web-based database enterprise system.

TrackIt is designed to access and manage track geometry data, including track quality and inventory, rail condition and flaws, work programs and visual inspection information.

ENSCO will provide all CN track-asset planners with rapid data access and reporting tools, which are designed to help the planners compare historical data to analyze track degradation.

"We needed a way to integrate data from quite a number of sources, including track geometry, rail wear, asset inventory and work programs," said Glenn Chafe, CN system manager of engineering systems, in a prepared statement.

With TrackIt, ENSCO can organize and manage data collected from Federal Railroad Administration track inspection vehicles. The supplier also offers inspection services, and Personal Digital Assistants with Global Positioning Systems for field inspectors.

ENSCO plans to enhance TrackIt to project track conditions and plan maintenance, and support inspection scheduling and work order reporting. ENSCO also is working with the FRA to provide TrackIT customers access to data collected by the administration's track inspectors.
