CN announced CA$905 million in capital expenditures planned for four Canadian provinces this year to ensure the fluidity and safety of its rail network while minimizing greenhouse gas emissions.

The Class I announced plans to invest CA$445 million in Alberta, CA$350 million in Ontario, CA$95 million in Manitoba and CA$15 million in New Brunswick as part of its CA$3 billion capital investment plan this year.

The railroad's 2021 capital expenditures will focus on technology, capacity and infrastructure maintenance, CN officials said in a press release.

In Alberta, CN will replace 64 miles of rail, install 182,000 new ties and rebuild 38 crossing surfaces, while in Ontario the railroad will replace 67 miles of rail, install 176,000 new ties and rebuild 85 crossing surfaces.

In Manitoba, CN will replace 29 miles of rail, install 118,000 ties and rebuild 17 crossing surfaces. And in New Brunswick, the Class I will replace 5 miles of rail, install 7,000 new ties and rebuild 19 crossing surfaces.

Crews will also perform maintenance on bridges, culverts, signal systems and other infrastructure in each province.
