Rail News: Maintenance Of Way
Yesterday, CSX Transportation began two maintenance-of-way (MOW) projects on lines between Rocky Mount, N.C., and Florence, S.C.; and Richmond and Newport News, Va.
To be completed Feb. 23, the Carolinas project includes installing more than 76,000 feet of continuous welded rail; to be completed March 2, the Virginia project calls for replacing more than 33,000 wood ties.
MOW crews will perform work Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Virginia and from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Carolinas so freight and Amtrak trains can operate Friday through Sunday and during non-work hours, according to CSXT.
The projects are included in CSXT’s 2006 capital spending budget, which will exceed $1 billion. Last year, the Class I budgeted more than $900 million for capital expenditures.
