Rail News: Maintenance Of Way
Yesterday, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) board approved a $94.1 million contract to build tunnels and tracks that will link the Red and Blue line subways, and connect them to a planned North State Street station.
The authority also will modify the State Street and Dearborn Street subway platforms to install connecting track; replace ties on adjacent Blue and Red line track; modify fare control areas in the Red Line subway at four locations; modify the continuous platforms north of Washington inside the Red and Blue line subways to connect them to the new transit station; and replace about 4,000 ties in both subway tunnels.
Construction is scheduled to begin later this year and be complete in fall 2008.
