Rail News: Maintenance Of Way

CTA to rehab Clark Junction

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) recently began rehabilitating track and signals at the century-old Clark Junction, where the Brown, Red and Purple lines converge just north of Belmont on the Windy City’s north side. Trains will use the upgraded junction to cross over to adjacent tracks.

The project will improve train-routing flexibility and service reliability, CTA said. Each weekday, almost 1,000 trains pass through the corridor.

Scheduled to be complete by year end, the project also includes rehabilitating Clark Tower, which houses the switches, locks and signals needed to route trains through the junction.
