California's ACE to build $58 million train maintenance facility

The San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission has approved a $58 million contract with Flintco Pacific Inc. to build a maintenance and layover facility for the Altamont Commuter Express’ (ACE) train fleet.
The new facility will be used for maintenance, cleaning and overnight storage of ACE trainsets, and will accommodate future service expansions, ACE officials said in a prepared statement.
The facility will be built on 64 acres about a mile north of the Cabral train station, where the commuter-line originates. ACE trains currently are maintained in a south Stockton, Calif., rail yard owned and operated by Union Pacific Railroad.
Site work is scheduled to begin in September, with construction on structures slated to start in February 2012. Expected to be completed in August 2013, the project is being funded by local and federal dollars.
