Caltrain this month will begin a 14-month project to improve the Napoleon Street and Marin Street bridges in San Francisco.

The Napoleon Street Bridge will be replaced for safety and structural integrity purposes. Caltrain crews will replace four short bridge spans with a center steel bridge. The new bridge will also feature steel girders and new wing walls.

The Napoleon Street Bridge is aging and has had recent fire damage, according to a project presentation. Construction will end in summer 2021.

Later this year, Caltrain crews also will make minor safety improvements to the Marin Street Bridge to maintain it in a state of good repair. Work will be completed in spring 2021.

The project may also include additional track work from Cesar Chavez to Jerrold Street, which would begin in summer 2021 and conclude in the fall.

Caltrain yesterday held a virtual public meeting to gather feedback on the project, which will require some service disruptions.
