Rail News: Maintenance Of Way

Caltrain to start serving San Bruno station next month

Caltrain will begin serving a new, grade-separated rail station in San Bruno, Calif., on April 1.

The station is part of a $155 million grade separation that elevated Caltrain tracks at three separate grade crossings in San Bruno. The grade-separated crossings improve safety conditions for both pedestrians and motorists in San Bruno, while also easing traffic congestion to and from Highway 101, Caltrain officials said in a press release.

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority provided $92.5 million for the project, with the remaining funding coming from state and federal sources.

Since 2010, Caltrain riders have used a temporary boarding platform on Huntington Avenue near Sylvan Avenue. The last day of service at that site will be March 31, with the new station opening up a half-mile to the north at 833 San Mateo Ave. A few amenities, such as an elevator accessing the northbound platform, will be added at the station after the April 1.
