The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will begin two New Haven Line projects in October instead of July as originally planned.The delay is needed to align the planned activities for the projects with other active projects in the area, department officials said in a press release. One project involves building a new four-track interlocking on the New Haven Line between South Norwalk and Westport. The other project will improve and electrify the southern portion of the line's 24-mile Danbury Branch. The improvements will enable commuter trains that begin or end in Norwalk to switch direction. Both projects will be completed before replacement of the 121-year-old rail bridge over the Norwalk River in Norwalk. Those projects will help minimize the impact to commuter and other passenger services construction of the new bridge, according to CTDOT.The New Haven Line, which runs from New Haven, Conn., to Mount Vernon, N.Y., is part of MTA Metro-North Railroad.
