A leadership transition is under way at Harsco Corp. The company recently announced Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Derek Hathaway will retire after the April 2008 annual stockholders meeting and Salvatore Fazzolari will become CEO Jan. 1.

Currently president, chief financial officer and treasurer, Fazzolari also is expected to be elected chairman after Hathaway departs. Since joining Harsco in 1980, he has served stints as director of auditing and corporate controller. Fazzolari has been a board member since 2002.

Hathaway joined Harsco in 1984 as senior vice president of operations for the Engineered Products Group. In 1991, he was named President and Chief Operating Officer, and elected to the board. Three years later, he was appointed chairman, president and CEO.

Harsco’s Minerals & Rail Technologies, Services and Products Group includes Harsco Track Technologies, which provides railway track maintenance equipment and services.
