Harsco Track Technologies adds ballast cleaning to service portfolio

Harsco Track Technologies (HTT) recently began offering ballast cleaning services to North American railroads. The first customer: Florida East Coast Railway L.L.C. (FECR).

For the 351-mile regional, HTT will provide equipment, operators, maintenance services and replacement parts. The supplier will use its "Mud Mantis" switch undercutting and ballast cleaning machine — developed with FECR — to remove ballast from both roadbed sides and under ties, and reclaim ballast via an on-board screening process.

"Significant interest is being expressed by a number of domestic and international customers, including several who have scheduled first-hand visits to view the Mud Mantis in operation," said HTT President Robert Newman in a prepared statement.
