Rail News: Maintenance Of Way
Harsco Track Technologies (HTT) recently obtained three rail-equipment orders totaling $15 million in Germany, Peru and the United States.
The company received its second order for a switch and crossing rail grinder from German track construction company Eichholz GmbH. To be delivered in the first-half 2005, the unit is designed to grind and re-profile rail surfaces to maintain wheel-to-rail interfaces and remove surface defects.
HTT also obtained an order for a narrow-gauge ballast tamper from Peruvian railroad Ferrocarril Transandino, which plans to use the machine on its Cusco-to-Machu Picchu scenic railway line operated by PeruRail. Delivery is scheduled for first-quarter 2005.
Finally, the company will build 12 specially configured crane cars for MTA New York City Transit. To be delivered in second-half 2005, the cars will feature a full-length, traversable one-ton crane designed to transfer rail loads and other materials to and from work sites.
"International markets now generate close to 60 percent of Harsco Corp.'s overall revenues and represent a key factor in our outlook for continued long-term growth," said Derek Hathaway, chairman, president and chief executive officer of HTT parent Harsco Corp., in a prepared statement.
