Harsco Corp. recently promoted Vice President of Information Technology Scott Gerson to VP and chief information officer — the company’s first-ever CIO.

Prior to joining Harsco in early 2005, Gerson held several senior management IT positions at Kulicke & Soffa Industries, and various IT management positions at Compaq Computers and TRW.

“The establishment of the CIO position within our senior leadership team recognizes the increasingly important contribution of information technology in providing a competitive advantage as we continue to expand Harsco’s business on a global scale,” said Harsco President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer Salvatore Fazzolari in a prepared statement.

Harsco also recently launched a redesigned corporate Web site at www.harsco.com. The site offers easier-to-navigate features and new applications, including an expanded investor relations section with interactive research tools, a timeline tracing the company’s more than 260-year history, and an animated homepage with current news and events displays.

Harsco subsidiary Harsco Track Technologies provides railroad track maintenance equipment and services.
