Kansas City Southern adds longer siding, Centralized Traffic Control to the Meridian Speedway

Last week, the Kansas City Southern Railway Co. (KCSR) completed two cutovers on the Meridian Speedway that already are paying off by boosting train velocity. The railroad cutover an extended siding in Vicksburg, Miss., to the Speedway’s mainline and cutover Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) from West Monument to West Smith, Miss.
The siding and CTC cutovers are part of a large capacity expansion program on the Speedway, which runs between Meridian, Miss., and Shreveport, La. The West Monument-to-West Smith segment is part of a CTC project under which KCSR will install the system on 50 track miles between Bovay, La. and Jackson, Miss. The remainder of the CTC will be installed next month.
During the past few months, the railroad cutover two new receiving and departure tracks in High Oak Yard in Jackson, Miss. Another track will be cutover by month’s end and construction on a new mainline through the yard will begin in April.
Last year, KCSR relayed rail, undercut track and installed a new drainage system on 11 track miles between Vicksburg’s east end and the Mississippi River Bridge.
