MARTA joins other entities to begin pedestrian bridge project

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) — in partnership with the Buckhead Community Improvement District, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), State Road and Toll Authority, Federal Transit Administration and city of Atlanta — plans to begin construction of a pedestrian bridge that will reconnect the east and west sides of Buckhead, Ga.
The bridge also will offer a more convenient access to the entrance of the agency’s Buckhead station, MARTA officials said in a prepared statement.
Today, the agency will begin preliminary work on the project, which is not expected to affect train service at the station, they said.
The project entails a new entrance on the north end of the existing station; a pedestrian bridge over north and southbound lanes of state highway 400; and elevator/stair tower, sidewalk and bridge connection on the east side of the highway; and sidewalk access to elevated walkway from Tower Place to connect to the bridge on the west side of the highway.
The project is slated for completion in November 2013.
