Canadian Pacific and CN have had to suspend service in parts of British Columbia since Nov. 14 after heavy rains, severe flooding and subsequent mudslides wreaked havoc on infrastructure in the province.
CP operations between Spences Bridge and Falls Creek, B.C., remain suspended due to multiple track outages, the Class I announced Nov. 17.
CP has deployed crews and equipment crews and equipment to the region, and CP engineering teams are working to repair the damaged rail corridor as quickly as possible where safe to do so, CP officials said in a press release.
"There is no time estimate for when service will resume," they added.
The impact on infrastructure has been catastrophic and could add to supply chain challenges in Canada and the United States, The Washington Post reported today. The deluge and accompanying mudslides have choked off the city of Vancouver, shuttering four main roads and two key rail lines linking to its port, the newspaper reported.
