The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) next week will partially shut down its light-rail system to perform critical maintenance work.

The agency will close a section of the system between the North Avenue and Camden Yards stations in both directions. Light-rail service to Baltimore's Penn Station also will be halted.

The shutdown will begin July 25 and continue through Aug. 11. During the closures, crews will perform necessary rail replacement and track maintenance, MTA officials said in a press release.

The agency will establish a "bus bridge" along the entire length of the closed section to transport riders between affected stations.
