The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) this week announced plans to eliminate seven grade crossings on a CSX rail line in Wake Forest and Raleigh.

NCDOT will hold public hearings March 27 in Raleigh and March 30 in Wake Forest to discuss two proposed projects to eliminate the crossings, department officials said in a press release.

The projects were proposed to eliminate the potential for vehicle and train collisions at the crossings, and to end traffic backups that occur when trains operate through the crossings at different times of the day.

At the March 27 hearing in Raleigh, project details will be presented for improvements proposed at Durant Road, Gresham Lake Road, Millbrook Road, New Hope Church Road and Wolfpack Lane.

At the March 30 hearing in Wake Forest, details will be presented for proposed improvements at crossings on Rogers and Ligon Mill roads.
