Rail News: Maintenance Of Way
On Monday, North Carolina Railroad Co. (NCRR) will begin upgrading rail in three track segments totaling 15 miles east of Selma, N.C. The railroad plans to replace 90-pound multi-jointed rail with 132-pound continuous-welded rail.
Norfolk Southern Railway crews will perform the work, which is expected to take three weeks to complete.
The $6 million project will improve service reliability between Goldsboro and Morehead City, according to NCRR, which owns and manages a 317-mile corridor between Morehead City and Charlotte. Each day, more than 60 NS trains and eight Amtrak trains travel along the corridor.
