The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) approved construction authorization from the Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) directing the upgrade of rail crossings in Franklin, Harrison and Ottawa counties.

The projects will involve installation of mast-mounted flashing lights and roadway gates at the crossings, according to a PUCO press release.

Indiana and Ohio Railway will upgrade the crossings at First Street and Central Avenue in Urbancrest, Franklin County.

Norfolk Southern Railway will pursue crossing upgrades in the town of Benton in Ottawa County, and the Columbus & Ohio River Railroad will make improvements to crossings in the village of Scio and town of Rumley in Harrison County.

The projects must be completed by Feb. 10, 2017. They are funded by federal dollars provided through the ORDC.
