R. J. Corman Railroad Services yesterday announced that its 6-mile siding extension project between Wells and North Berwick, Maine, for CSX has received the National Railroad Construction & Maintenance Association's (NRC) 2024 Small Project of the Year Award.

One of the company's innovations used in the project was its approach to material stockpiling and distribution, utilizing hi-rail rotary dump trucks to handle over 22,000 tons of ballast, R. J. Corman officials said in a press release.

The company's coordination with Amtrak and CSX ensured seamless operations and worker safety throughout the project, they added.

The project was designed to improve the reliability and schedule flexibility of the Amtrak Downeaster and CSX freight trains, supporting the addition of a sixth daily Downeaster round-trip between Wells and Brunswick, Maine, R. J. Corman officials said.

This is the second year in a row that the company received the NRC Small Project of the Year Award.
