With summer only a few weeks away, Kansas City Southern is putting the finishing touches on several maintenance-of-way (MOW) projects that are expected to wrap up during the year's hottest months.

Later this month, the Class I will complete a siding extension in Karnack, Texas, then in July, finish a double-track project in Heavener, Okla. In August, the railroad expects to complete siding extensions in Jury, Texas, and Page, Okla., and a distributed power track and two mainline crossovers in Pittsburg, Kan.

By summer's end, KCS also plans to complete double trackwork in Monroe, La., and upgrade 11 track miles from near Vicksburg, Miss., to the Mississippi River. The Vicksburg project includes installing ties, relaying rail across a bridge, undercutting track, adding a 9,000-foot siding and building a drainage system along the main track. The Class I also plans to install Centralized Traffic Control on 50 track miles between Bovay, La., and Jackson, Miss.

KCS' MOW crews will be busy into fall, as well. The railroad expects to complete a siding and set-out track in Wade, Ark., in October and an expansion and main track upgrade project at High Oak Yard in Pearl, Miss., in November.
