Tennessee's Walking Horse and Eastern gains new overpass
advertisement
The Tennessee Department of Transportation recently marked the completion of a new overpass for the Walking Horse and Eastern Railroad Co. Inc. in Shelbyville. The overpass will enable the city to eliminate a grade crossing after a new roadway is constructed.
The project — which began in September 2007 and concluded in May — was completed two months ahead of schedule. In addition, the project's final cost was more than $17,000 less than the construction bid.
The "Shelbyville Bypass" will provide access to new and existing industrial and residential developments in the city's outer rims, and relieve traffic congestion in the downtown area, the Tennessee DOT said.
