advertisement
Yesterday, Union Pacific Railroad announced it will spend about $10.5 million to upgrade 65 miles of track on a line between Des Moines and Iowa Falls, Iowa.
To be completed by early December, the project includes removing and installing 52,500 ties, replacing more than two miles of rail in various curves, renewing surfaces at 91 grade crossings and spreading nearly 22,000 tons of ballast.
The work is part of UP’s $3.3 billion capital spending budget for 2011.
