Rail News: Maintenance Of Way
Last week, Union Pacific Railroad began a $47.2 million track improvement project on a line between Boone and Denison, Iowa.
To be completed by October’s end, the project includes installing 196,181 concrete ties, spreading 222,000 tons of ballast, and replacing surfaces at 45 grade crossings and 24 turnouts.
The project is part of UP’s more than $1 billion track maintenance budget for 2005.
