Rail News: Maintenance Of Way
Last week, Union Pacific Railroad announced it selected a Tempe, Ariz., location for two new 2,500-foot staging tracks. Next month, the railroad will begin building the tracks along a branch line between Baseline and Guadalupe roads.
UP officials had considered constructing the tracks farther north on the branch line between 13th Street and Broadway. But after studying the site and meeting with local officials, UP planners determined the Baseline/Guadalupe location — which is surrounded by land zoned for industrial use — was a more suitable location.
To be completed in June, each track will be used to stage 28 cars for about 20 Tempe-area shippers.
