By Thanksgiving next year, Union Pacific Railroad will open one of the highest double-track rail bridges in North America. On Friday, the Class I announced a $43 million bridge in Boone, Iowa, that’s been under construction since March will be completed in November 2008.

The railroad is building the 2,550-foot-long, 190-foot-high bridge to accommodate projected traffic growth.

“The Boone High Bridge is a modern-day engineering feat that will enhance our long-term ability to improve operational efficiency and customer service,” said UP Vice President of Engineering Bill Wimmer in a prepared statement.

HDR Engineering Inc. provided engineering services and obtained necessary permits for bridge, which is being built by contractor OCCI Inc.
