Union Pacific Railroad is completing a $10.1 million track improvement project between Oakland and Newark, Calif.

To be completed in mid-July, the project calls for replacing 2,400 feet of curved rail, installing 48,500 ties, spreading 23,656 tons of ballast and replacing surfaces at 95 grade crossings.

The project is part of UP’s 2006 $1.5 billion capital spending program.
