advertisement
Union Pacific Railroad plans to spend $6.6 million to improve track between Nelson and Peoria, Ill.
The Class I will remove and install 47,000 ties, replace rail in various curves, spread 46,000 tons of ballast and replace surfaces at 33 grade crossings. The project, which began last week, is schedule to conclude in mid-April.
The work is part of UP's ’08 MOW budget, which calls for spending $1.6 billion to maintain track across the Class I’s more than 32,300-mile system.
