WMATA adds track trash collectors at three stations
advertisement
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) recently installed debris collectors along the tracks at Union Station, and the Red Line’s Gallery Place-Chinatown and Judiciary Square Metrorail stations.
The collectors are designed to keep tracks clear of trash, which can cause fires. As a train arrives or departs from a station, the rush of air from a train’s movement will blow trash into the collectors.
During the next few months, officials will monitor the equipment’s effectiveness and consider installing collectors system-wide.
