Rail News: Maintenance Of Way
Last week, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) board gave the green light to begin several projects designed to improve safety and reliability.
The authority will purchase two utility spot tampers to help speed track maintenance work. WMATA also will spend $17.6 million to upgrade automatic train protection circuits — which enable control room employees to monitor train location and speed — at 22 stations and replace 35 remote terminal communication devices that link the operations control center and wayside track equipment.
In addition, WMATA will spend $5.9 million to rehabilitate or repair several stations.
