NS rolls out its own 'Blue Streak' intermodal service

advertisement

No, not that "Blue Streak." Norfolk Southern Corp. recently launched "2005 NS Blue Streak," an intermodal service designed to help Equipment Management Program (EMP) and North American Container System (NACS) members meet their equipment needs. Not to be confused with the Blue Streak intermodal service NS offers jointly with Union Pacific Railroad, 2005 NS Blue Streak is available only at NS terminals.

The service enables shippers to earn credits between Jan. 24 and June 15 that can be redeemed for guaranteed containers and priority train slot access between July 1 and Dec. 15.

Between June 16 and 30, NS plans to keep 2005 NS Blue Streak inactive so the railroad can tabulate credits and distribute credit tallies to shippers.

Although equipment isn't guaranteed, NS plans to place the highest service priority on 2005 NS Blue Streak loads throughout the year to ensure priority train loading, unloading and chassis mounting.

EMP and NACS provide pools of 48- and 53-foot containers that can be used by program members.
