Norfolk Southern Railway announced March 10 it reached agreements with two more labor unions to provide up to seven paid sick days per year to their members.

Negotiated with the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, Transportation Workers, Mechanical Department and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the agreements call for four new days of paid sick leave and the flexibility to use up to three more days of existing paid time off as sick leave.

About 650 railroaders are covered by the new pacts, NS officials said in a press release.

Last month, NS announced agreements with the National Conference of Firemen and Oilers to extend paid sick days to 200 mechanical railroaders, along with the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division to extend paid sick days to 3,000 engineering craft railroaders.

The company and union leaders are discussing ways to improve quality of life and work predictability for its craft employees. In the coming months, NS anticipates making additional progress with its unions on shared priorities, company officials said.
