Norfolk Southern solicits applications for safety, community grant programs

Norfolk Southern Railway is accepting applications for its Safety First and Thriving Communities grant programs through Oct. 1. 

Launched in 2023, the programs are designed to support organizations that promote safe and sustainable operations, develop the local workforce, and build strong, resilient communities across the Class I's 22-state network, NS officials said in a press release.

The Safety First grant program supports organizations and initiatives that directly provide safety services or operate programs that promote safe behavior. Grants of up to $15,000 will assist first responders and organizations working to prevent and prepare for emergencies, ensuring community safety.

The Thriving Communities grant program promotes economic opportunity, supports vibrant community life, and provide equal access to basic necessities, the release said. Grants of up to $50,000 will support nonprofit organizations working to build a strong foundation for long-term prosperity in communities.
