Norfolk Southern Corp. is selling a 33-acre property in Jacksonville, Florida, to the Anderson-DeBose Co. for the purpose of developing a rail-served cold-storage distribution facility.
Anderson-DeBose is under contract to acquire the property, where a new 160,000-square-foot facility will be built to support McDonald's restaurants across the southeast United States, NS officials said in a press release.
The location is one of the few remaining rail-served sites in the NS-owned Westlake Industrial Park in Jacksonville. The park is exclusively served by an NS mainline.
The project will support the creation of 109 jobs and represents a $60 million investment by Anderson-Dubose in northwest Jacksonville. It's anticipated the facility will generate 160 carloads for NS on an annualized basis.
"By leveraging our extensive real estate assets, we are not only enhancing our operational capabilities, but we are also fostering economic development in the regions we serve and lowering our national supply chain’s carbon footprint," said Stefan Loeb, vice president of business development and first- and final-mile markets for NS.
