An 80-acre Norfolk Southern Railway-served industrial site in Muncie, Indiana, has earned the Site Selectors Guild's (SSG) Gold Ready for Economic Development (REDI) certification, which means the location's infrastructure is ready for capital investment and industrial development.
A total of 18 NS-served sites have received a REDI designation since the program’s inception, NS officials said yesterday in a website post.
The SSG is a professional association of site selection consultants. Its REDI program evaluates sites on criteria including infrastructure capacity and utility readiness, environmental due diligence, access to rail or other transportation modes, workforce availability and development timelines.
“Gold REDI certification demonstrates that this Muncie site is ready to compete for significant industrial investment,” said MaryBeth Flournoy, NS' director of industrial development, in a press release. “With direct rail service and strong regional infrastructure, the site offers companies the connectivity and reliability they need to grow while strengthening economic opportunity in Indiana.”
