Norfolk Southern to offer storm relief grants

Norfolk Southern Railway has launched a community disaster relief grant program to support communities impacted by the early April storms in the South and Midwest, the company announced yesterday in a "Story Yard" post.

NS will provide up to $250,000 in grants to nonprofits that are assisting residents in the Class I’s operating areas affected by the recent weather, NS officials said.

Through this link, nonprofits can explain how they are responding to storm damage. NS employees affected by the storms can seek short-term evacuation or long-term damage repair assistance from the NS Employee Hardship program.

Storms during the week of March 31 spawned tornados, high winds and flooding, which damaged NS track as well as the communities the railroad serves.  NS repair crews, equipment and response materials have been positioned in affected regions to restore service to customers, NS officials said in the post.
