The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) last week for the first time ran an electrified MAX train test on the northern segment of the new Portland-Milwaukie light-rail transit alignment, including the new Tilikum Crossing bridge.A powered Portland Streetcar train also crossed the bridge during the systems test, TriMet officials said in a press release. The 7.3-mile Portland-Milwaukie line is the region's sixth MAX construction project. It is designed to improve transit in the corridor that extends from the terminus of the MAX Green and Yellow lines at Portland State University in downtown Portland to South Waterfront, Southeast Portland, Milwaukie and North Clackamas County. The project includes the Tilikum Crossing bridge, which will accommodate light-rail and streetcar trains, as well as buses, bicycles and pedestrians. No private vehicles will be allowed to use the bridge, which is scheduled to open Sept. 12.When completed, the project will have expanded the MAX system to 60 miles and 97 stations.
