Patriot Rail Co. LLC has completed its acquisition of short-line operator Salt Lake Garfield & Western Railway (SLGW) and its related storage and transload service providers Caballero LLC and Caballero 2 LLC.
The purchase represents Patriot's first bolt-on acquisition since First Sentier Investors, a global investor in infrastructure, acquired the company in October 2019, Patriot officials said in a press release.
SLGW handles more than 6,000 loaded rail cars annually on its 26-mile line. Located in Salt Lake City's industrial corridor and near the recently expanded Salt Lake International Airport, the line runs adjacent to two interstates and connects with Union Pacific Railroad and BNSF Railway Co.
"The SLGW has been a long-trusted railroad in the Salt Lake City area for more than 125 years," said Patriot Chief Executive Officer John Fenton. "This addition to the Patriot portfolio strengthens our ability to continue providing competitive and innovative transportation solutions in the western region of the United States."
