TransLink on Feb. 2 plans to open a new platform at Commercial-Broadway Station that will introduce all-door boarding to its system for the first time.

All-door boarding helps reduce crowding on platforms and improves passenger flow at stations, TransLink officials said in a press release.

The new process will benefit Expo Line riders who board or exit trains heading westbound toward downtown Vancouver. Those passengers will be able to connect to the Millennium Line by exiting via doors on the right side, or connect to buses by exiting on the left.

Millennium Line riders transferring to the Expo Line can take a new overhead walkway to the new platform or use the older overhead walkway to access the original platform.

TransLink plans to employ additional staff and install additional signage before and after the boarding change to help riders understand the new process at Commercial-Broadway Station.
